The Cetina rivers flows through central Dalmatia from its source deep in the hinterland, to the Omis delta where it meets the sea.Its upper flow is faster as it rushes to the sea through canyons and harsh rocky outcrops typical of Dalmatian scenery. The lower section of the river is somewhat calmer, breaking into flatter sections sheltered by tall canyon walls and surrounded by lush meadows.

The river water is quite clear and clean, so much so that it supplies fresh water for many Dalmatian households. It is also rich in animal and plant life, with dozens of bird species who makes it their natural habitat, not to mention trout that is plentiful in its waters.
